Praça do Império is a public square in Lisbon, with beautiful gardens and a big luminous fountain, occupying 3.3 hectares in Belém, right by the river.
It was built in 1940 on the occasion of the Great Exhibition of the Portuguese World, where there used to be a beach, known as "Praia do Restelo".
It is located in a privileged location in the city, from where centuries ago the explorers of the Portuguese Discoveries set sail to the New World. Nearby attractions include the Jerónimos Monastery, Padrão dos Descobrimentos, Belém Tower and Centro Cultural de Belém. And there is also the famous patisserie Pastéis de Belém, where we can get some reinvigoration after covering the many kilometres of the Gran Fondo Lisboa.
The start and finish take place here, making the logistics a lot easier and also allowing for the inclusion of a Bike Expo, where all the brands in the cycling field can exhibit their products during the two days of the event.
